PICKLEBALL is now at the Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) in East Lansing, MI. The MAC has three outdoor courts for summertime use and these courts are covered in a heated bubble for winter use. Player Glenn Lansky received permission to tape some tennis courts and promote pickleball. He began in the spring with some success and since the weather has turned cold, pickleball is "booming in the bubble". The number of players is growing by the day. Most everyone is new to the game. Among the estimated 50 players, the age distribution seems to be 35 to 65.

Glenn Lansky has been working with the director of operations, Chris Hull, and the tennis director, John Good, who have been very supportive of his efforts. The goal is to have the pickleball lines painted on the courts and eventually hold a tournament at the MAC. It is a great facility, with four swimming pools, hot tubs, and a restaurant on site. The MAC is a great place for visitors to spent the day or weekend and experience Pickleball in the Bubble.

We in Deerfield, WI are now into our fall schedule. We play on Sunday evenings from 7-9 and have 22 players aged 50 and over. One lady is 85 years young and very good, I might add. In addition, there is interest in Janesville, WI in starting an outdoor league next summer. Their recreation director has secured 3 tennis courts for conversion. I will assist the director in training groups and setting up leagues.

The Pickleball players in Terre Haute, IN have moved the desire for Great Lakes Region Outdoor Pickleball Courts from a beautiful vision to a dazzling reality! Manny Rodriguez writes: "Here are some pictures of our new Pickleball Facility. We are very proud to have 6 courts as our community is growing with pickleball players. The level of play is getting stronger and the number of participants continue to go up. We have been playing on the new courts for two weeks now and will continue to play as long as it doesn't get below 30 degrees. 6 NEW Outdoor Courts for Larger 2009 Events

Paul Barksdale and Rex Lawler are spreading the good news "We have completed the new 6 Pickleball courts in Terre Haute. They look great. Hope to get some pictures so they we can show what the Terre Haute parks and recreation has done for us in Pickleball. We want to have several tournaments next year as we are proud of our city." Watch for sanctioned tournaments and other events blossoming in 2009 in Terra Haute as a result of the concerted efforts of Paul and Rex.
