USAPA Ambassadors Opt-in!

USAPA Ambassadors!

"You all recently received an e-mail from Dick Manasseri inviting you to join our new USAPA How-to Group. This Google Group is the tool that you all have been waiting for. As Ambassadors you are already great leaders in promoting the sport in your local areas. This tool will take your leadership skills to the next level. Regional and Local Ambassadors across the country are sharing their success stories and providing you with detailed information to help grow pickleball and USAPA memberships in your area. Learn from those who have already walked in your shoes. Check out the mini-plans and pick a couple of things that you would like to accomplish this year. Or, partner up with another Ambassador and work as a team to build and carry out your mini plan. If each one of us sets just two goals for the year – just think how much we can accomplish as a Region. But first - just look at what's out there and share anything you have that will assist others. The group has only been up and running for less than two days as of this writing and already we have nearly 35 members on board. What are you waiting for?"

"We will publish the player list, but it may not be for another week or two. We have not yet received the entries that were mailed on the deadline of Saturday, October 10. Key people involved with data entry, planning, and seeding are busy at the Huntsman tournament this week. This will be a huge tournament with close to 400 players. Much work remains to be done." Pickleball in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin
by Tom Brull, USAPA Ambassador

USAPA E-Pickleball News, October 1, 2009

Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, began a new Pickleball club for players in the City of Manitowoc. We were successful in getting the City Recreation Department to paint two courts in 2008 on a tennis court that was seldom used and they added a third court this past spring. They also provided us with a gym to use in the winter. We had to tape off courts, but it worked.

We are averaging 15 to 20 players on a weekly basis and are now listed in the "Places to Play" section of the USAPA website. Although, our surface leaves a lot to be desired, we have started and are growing. Our players range in age from 9 to 70 and we have a good mix of men and women. In the beginning, I provided the equipment. Now almost everyone has their own equipment and are learning new techniques each session. I have been providing our Rec Dept with info from USAPA in hope of getting better and permanent courts, but it hasn't been catching on with them as fast as I would like. I have even volunteered to help paint the lines on the gym floor so that we don't have to tape in the winter, and hopefully will speed up the process.

We are presently playing on Wednesday evenings starting at about 6 pm. and lasting until 7-7:30 pm. As daylight hours decrease, we will start play at 5:00 pm. This Winter, we will move indoors play on Saturdays from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
